Sometimes life gives us a difficult blow, and we ask, "Why is this happening to me?" It's so tempting to wallow in the 'why', but maybe it's the wrong question. If asking why is this happening hasn't given you hope, then try asking the what question. This session is about thought management and mature perspective and will give you the gift of looking at your situation in a new way so that you can park your mind there and move forward with hope and strength.

New Perspective
I love being reminded of new ways to view any situation and this helps us focus on ways to solve the problem not dwell on the problem.

Bone crushing sorrow
Tonight I couldn't sleep because the grief of being separated from my daughter crept into my dreams. I kept trying to find a way to answer the question why me? Why us? All i could think about is the harm that this happening. This mediation says I need to reframe the question to what. This was done so I could see the good. Right now the pain is to great for me to answer these questions. All I want is for the nightmare to end. I want to see my daughter more than words can describe.

Asking What?
Asking What? helps reprogram your mind when dealing with life's challenges. I like this approach a lot because asking why?doesn't help at all. Thank you!

I was a little distracted 😯
I guess I just need a little more practice with mindfulness, my mind was constantly distracted and I wasn't able to stay focused on anything at all.

What not why
Not to ask why. Ask myself what. Understand that things happen for a reason and to prepare us for other things. What will I do now that I'm in this situation not why did this happen to me

Action vs inaction
The key to dealing with stress is figuring out how to take action and engage with it rather than contemplate why it happens
G
Georgia
Calm VS stressed
Sometimes you get mad at someone and you get really really stressed so take a deep breath.Calm yourself down and meditate because that helps a lot and it calms your body down and gives your body a little time to calm down. And maybe try counting to 10. So sometimes you just need to let your body settle it and next thing you know it's going to be fine so take a deep breath and there are a lot of things you could be doing right now have fun in the rest of your day I hope you like my my writing so thanks. And smash that like button.🙏

What instead of why...
Focusing upon the “what?...” instead of “why...?” is a very useful way to shortcut any sense of helplessness or victimhood and return us to a place of power and agency. I’ve saved this meditation, thank you!

A New Beginning 10-24-17
This is my 2nd meditation this morning. I am a veteran and get to spend my morning at the VA so I am a little stressed. My pups were active this morning, now resting as they always do during mediation time and that stressed me out. I want ME time to sew but and wrap Christmas (all done), but I have to accomplish my requirements first so my stress will wipe away. Breathe, just breathe.

Sleepy Little Why turned to a—What is next?
Feeling very sleepy with her voice. “The what can I do now”, is more important physically and mentally to my wellbeing than the time spent in the “why”. Healing happens after and when we are ready for an action to move on or forward.

Don’t let yourself be tempted to go negative!
It is so easy to go negative, but we must remain vigilant & stay positive. I found myself w/ this meditation asking “Wow does this mean something really bad is coming my way?” Of course it doesn’t!! It just happened to be the next meditation in line on this app!

Life is a lesson
Life can deal you sucker punches you gotta roll with them to grow. Life is a lesson, learn what you can and don't let adversity make you bitter. Life's not fair but it's a blessing, so make the most of it whilst you have it. Instead of sitting in the past, live now towards a better future.
J
Justine
Not why but what
I loved this meditation. It turned myself from victim to purposeful explorer. Instead of looking inwards and crying why, to some experiences that were out of my control I can look deeper and say how can this make me a better person. Life can be self centric but it doesn’t always have to be that way.
D

Thank you
This meditation really does help you change your perspective on things, and start to shift you out of the paralysis of ‘why is this happening’ to ‘what can I do with it, now that it is.’

Helpful
I liked this meditation a lot. I’ve been dealing with weeks of stress and hard times and asking what instead of why does help a lot with accepting and dealing with those problems. Might be hard to ask those at first, but I think necessary at some point.

A new perspective
I learned that reflecting immediately after or in the moment about WHAT I can learn from my misfortunes is far more effective than taking the time later on down the road, long after something bad has happened. I need to ask myself: what good could come of this situation? What could I learn? immediately rather than dwelling on the negative and wallowing in self pity
A

What
I learned that seeking answers to the "why" doesn't really matter. It's the answers to the "what" that does.

What have I been thinking 🤔
What is a much better ? to ask then why. I already feel better just thinking about it. Asking why doesn’t move me along it just causes me to try to move along and I keep coming back to it. What makes me think of answers and possibilities to find a resolve. I feel motivated to change the way I think and feel about things that have happened in the past and how I’m not dealing with them right. Today I will start looking at my situation from a different perspective. Thanks 🙏 Aura

Becoming a "What" asker
Asking "what" creates opportunity for growth and future of hope and improvement. Asking why created a never ending cycle of frustration and confusion, possibly without ever knowing or figuring out the answers or reasons. What allows the situation to be in my control and I have the chance to turn it into a positive learning experience to help make me become a better person out of it.

It’s no longer “why” but instead “what”
When we turn our “why questions” into “what questions,” we open the door to whatever opportunities lie behind the trial or tragedy that just occurred. Instead of being the victim, instead of letting the trials in our lives stop us from fulfilling opportunities, we take control and we learn from those trials.

Where to park the mind.
This got me thinking. What if when something bad or unforeseen happens instead of saying why me I asked what shall I do next. This is truly mindful and living in the present. It is also a more positive action instead of reaction. Thank you for the insight.

It’s not why, it’s what.
This statement is so simple but yet it’s totally not. I tend to ask myself why something happens a lot and just by listening this, it’s made me look at some things differently.

What instead of why
I learned that whenever you are dealt with a tough pill to swallow you may be tempted to ask yourself “why” questions such as: why is his happening to me? Why do I feel like this? At these times try asking “what questions instead, such as: what is this preparing me for? What can I learn from this? What could this be protecting me from? I noticed how why questions tend to be more self loathing while what questions tend to be more positive pointed and empowering. Overall loved this session 🌈☺️

Ask “What” not “ Why”
Asking why often results in frustration because you can’t find the answer. You become stuck looking for an answer to a question which perhaps does not have an answer. Asking “what” reframes the question and allows you to move you forward. Especially powerful for trauma survivors.

How
Or ask “how”. How can I grow from this? The “what” phrases don’t resonate as much with me as a call to action can be helpful, but not in all situations. Looking at growth and focusing on growth can help much more than why or what (as growth encompasses the what’s).

Where to park your mind
Bingo- this is the best place for me to begin to stop trying to find the old me. Maybe my “sparkle” is waiting for the me that has been molded through the trials and growth that comes with pain. Maybe I need to park my mind in a different mindset and learn how much I ought to be the best me. Why to What
Rather than whining about “why” things happen to us, it’s important to change our perspective and start asking “what” can be done and “what” we can do to improve. Sometimes the cards we are dealt are not what we anticipated, and instead of panicking or whining about it, it’s important to take a step back, breathe, and figure out the “what” of the situation. I’m continuously working on this, but this meditation was a great reminder.

Not why, but what.
I learnt this morning that I should try to stop asking “why” things are happening to me. I realize it takes so much out of my emotionally and mentally questioning myself and the person within this predicament with me “why” this is happening etc. From now on I’ll try as much as possible to question myself “what”; what can I do from this point forward, what is this teaching me, what is the lesson from all of this. 😔I hope I feel better, but I’m glad that this is a positive start.

Connect To The Love Inside Of YOU
Genuine self-love is the most profound experience in the universe. However, it usually takes time, sincere dedication, and discipline to develop. We are surrounded by so many images, beliefs, and behaviors that reinforce the idea of self-hatred every day that it can be extremely difficult for us to connect to the love inside of us.

Experience
I had a profound experience at work just over a year ago. It shook me completely. I’ve changed everything in my life but my family. It sent me into a cycle of depression. Why did it happen? Better is what did it accomplish - it was the final push out of an industry that was abusive into a job that I have learned much and can take with me. What have I gained - new coworkers I enjoy and don’t fear will turn on me to save themselves. A better home for my family.

I have been gone for a few weeks now, as stress and the mass build up of tasks to take care of have been given no other choice but to completely overwhelm me. Now that I have returned, I feel like I’m finally back to somewhat of my old self again, resuming my past times of relaxation and regaining my peace and mindfulness after longing to be granted time to win it back.

Work in Progress
I have been struggling with the “why” since I lost my job earlier this year. The experience and search process have been very challenging and it is difficult to shift into “what” mode. I know dwelling on the past is not productive. I will continue to take one step at a time.

Ask what
I am really going to try and do this. I am going to ask what instead of why. Why is this happening to me will be what do I do now that this is my reality. Beautiful

Last night I was afraid to fall asleep so when I woke up I learned with this specific one how to focus on breathing and nothing else

restless
I noticed that my mind wandered more than usual today. I think this was due to my not giving myself enough time to focus before beginning.

Angry
I wish I had this a few years ago when my boyfriend moved away. All I did was wallow in the “why did this happen to me” instead of saying “now that this is my reality what am I supposed to do with it”

What instead of Why
The What-Question is a question I tend to forget. I could accept reality as it developed and ask myself what I can learn from it, in what ways it has helped me to grow and to understand. To ask why is always pointing on the negative change, but a What-Question is showing me the good again, the possibilities. Thank you four reminding me.

Not who I am . Not mine
I have nothing else to do but to bring attention to my breath . To release and let go all the emotions ( bad emotions) they do not define who I am . To just breathe and trust Jesus

Short but powerful
Living with a feeling of precariousness, it would be easy to get stuck in he “Why me?” trap. This meditation gives me another set of questions to ask, and it’s much more present and forward-facing. Really good, and I think it’ll be really useful, starting pretty much now.

Now What not Why.
It is difficult to ask What instead of Why.. but it’s true we need to make the best of now.

Where to park your mind
Today we meditated on the what instead of the why. What can we learn? What should we be doing? It makes sense. Asking why something happens is passive. Asking the what gives us power and allows us to be proactive.

Productivity
I learned from this that happiness comes when I can be productive and aware of everything. Each day needs to be eventful in some way.

Asking the What, not the Why
I really liked this meditation. I found it to be both inspiring and practical. When asking yourself the “why” of a difficult situation does not produce hope, start asking the “what”. Instead of, “why did this happen to me?” or “why is this so difficult?”, start asking what you can learn from this situation, what you can do in the here-and-now to feel better and make changes, what your strengths are and what we can gain from this difficult experience. If your questioning is not producing hope then you are asking the wrong questions. Think of questions that yield hopeful and helpful answers. Park your mind in only the spots where there is room. You don’t try to park your car in a parking spot that another car has already taken, so what is the purpose of trying to park your mind in a question that may not produce any necessary answers?

Powerful
This was a powerful meditation for me. It’s funny I believe when we are ready to hear something the universe will provide what we need at that moment. 9 months ago, my Dad moved here unexpectedly. Long story short him and his long time girlfriend broke up. He did live with my husband and I for a few months before finding him a place. He can do a few things for himself. However, I still take care of a lot for him which I understand “the why” I am in this role. It is not a role I want to be in. My dad has never been there for me and was never empathetic. I have had a lot of emotions to process. The inner child in me needs healing. Boy, she has been making herself known lately. I have started to work on that this week. This situation has shattered my world. This is the reason my husband and I did not move this year. I will continue to listen to this meditation to see where it leads my thoughts.

I loved the moving from why to what. It resonates with me and it's something I want to work with to help me. I feel more comfortable with my situation

Where to park your mind
This is exactly what I needed to hear. I really want to work on training my mind to ask ‘what’ instead of ‘why’ during trying times.

Idk
Sometimes it's to hard to let the things go. When I took the first deep breath, it was easy. When I took the second I started to cry. And then I realized why I was feeling like this...

Where to park my mind
That’s a good question I asked myself what am I doing instead a lot of things going inside my mind telling me how to park my mind taking deep breath and relax sometimes I just wanna cry when I get stressed out or frustrated with anything.

Fabulous. Wish I had had this a couple of years ago. Adapting to circumstances instead of wondering why. Brilliant. Thanks Lauren.

The shift from why to what
The shifting of "why", which is a more abstract concept to most of us, to "what", a more concrete and tangible concept...we actually still.arrive at the why...

I learned that I am asking myself the wrong question sometimes. There are a lot of situations that arise that you will never get the why question answered but if you can at least understand the what of the situation you are at least moving forward.

Where to park your mind
I was expecting a small moment in teaching me how to still and quiet my mind for meditation. This is something I struggle with. I did not expect the topic that was covered instead, and ended my session in tears. It obviously touched on things for me.

I want to control life
I want to learn to ask myself what instead of why. I want to learn to move on instead of spending a tremendous amount of energy on things that happen that I have no control over. I want to see that the bad may be an opportunity to learn. Thanks
