Silence the racing thoughts and prepare for deep rest with this easy sound-based vagus exercise. In this meditation, you'll create gentle humming sounds. The vibration of your voice stimulates the vagus—helping to release stress by turning on your parasympathetic nervous system. Think of the vagus nerve as an elaborate pathway connecting the brain to all your bodily systems. This exercise also signals the body to create sleep-friendly “feel-good chemicals” including dopamine, endorphins, and oxytocin. For best results, listen regularly and your brain will create a "sleep cue" by associating this experience with sleep. If you wake up in the middle of the night, turn the track back on. Sweet dreams!
