This meditation gives you a powerful visualization for practicing the art of mindfulness, which is observing your thoughts and feelings from a neutral perspective, without attachment or resistance. They are like the currents of the river rushing past you, while you, the observer, are like a rock in the riverbed. This allows you to stay anchored in a calm state of awareness, which you can then bring back into your day. Photo by JAMES WESTMAN from Pexels www.christina-mcmahon.com

I'm a little distracted today
This really didn't do much for me. I had trouble connecting to the words and focusing. It felt a little too vague.

Tim
I'm feeling more stress after this meditation than I did beforehand.
Everything is flowing around me regardless of what I let in. So I have to be very selective on what I let move me or what I let in or I will get pushed down the stream by everything else.

I am the rock in the river bend
I love this reminder and the visualization that my thoughts and feeling flow through me and past me like the currents of a river bend, but I am a rock..Never getting swept up in the current. I also love the reminder that I am not my thoughts or feelings.

Rushing home
Rushing home made me become very quick in thinking. I couldn't discern individual thoughts as they came and went. I had very rapid eye movement. I felt rushed.

A New Beginning 10-24-17
I learned that you hav to let the little things go and truly focus on the big. Brush of what’s on your mind to relax and let it flow. I suggest the longer meditation (it went too fast) good day everyone!

Holding on
Usually I use meditation to cope with strong negative feelings & thoughts. This is my 1st doing it when I felt well. I didn't want to let go of my thoughts & feelings of fairness, justice and righteousness. I want my thoughts & actions to represent my values.

A Rock
In a river is steadfast in its place, never letting the current take it down the river with it. I need to be that rock, or better yet, let my faith be that Rock for me so I don't have to be wet and cold! I absolutely love this metaphor-my favorite by far!

Identity
I am not my thoughts. I am not my feelings. I am not my circumstances, I am the observer. If I let them go, I can reach my center, I can identify what is happening, and what is really me.

I find it hard to imagine my thoughts as currents in a river or balloons in the sky. I find I do better just by distracting myself with very mindful breathing. Still enjoyed the visualization though.

Trying to be more focused in the now and not let my thoughts and feelings control me and how I react to things, I need to choose what I give my energy too.

Stress
I learned that even when I’m stressed and have a billion thoughts racing in my head, I can let those thoughts just float around me and breathe. Taking in each thought at a time spending time with it instead of trying to interpret 5000 thoughts at once.

I Wish
I like to think that I’m a rock in the middle of the stream. This meditation is wonderful and very convincing; I love the pauses that give me time to focus. In truth, I am affected by my feelings, which lead to negative thoughts. I have no control over it because it (he) lives next door to me. I have to work to distance myself from the feelings. Meditating, deep breathing and refocusing helps, of course. Thanks for listening. 🙏

River
Thoughts and feelings are flowing past like the current of a river. They are there for a moment then continue downstream. I am a rock in the riverbed. I am not my thoughts; I am not my feelings.

Take me to the River
What a great analogy. I love that both thoughts and feelings are floating by, reminding me that all feelings as well as thoughts are temporary, and I am like a rock, able to experience it but also let it all flow past me. Namaste

Rock
I learned to visualize myself as a big boulder in middle of the currents of my thoughts. Unwavering. Unmoving. Immovable. An observer to the current of thoughts. I am not my thoughts.

The River
When I began this meditation, my mind was very clear of any thoughts or feelings. I was able to just relax and feel as the rock in the river as Anything that came to mind was just passing by. Never thought of my feelings and thoughts in the way of just visitors. I will not invite the unpleasant “visitors” back but the pleasant “visitors” will be welcome at anytime.

The river of thoughts and feelings
You are not your thoughts and feelings - so don’t let them control you. They are, instead, like water in a rushing river; they are moving through you in this moment but will pass by with time.

Thoughts and Feelings...
Thoughts and feelings are like a river, and I am the rock that is solidly grounded in the river bed. By being present in the moment and taking the time to recognize and acknowledge the thoughts and feelings that are bringing me stress, I can then allow them to continue flowing downstream. In doing this, I am able to truly live in the here and now and enjoy each and every moment.

I am a rock
I like the visual that I am a rock in the river and all my thoughts and feelings are flowing around me with the current. I am grounded and don’t have to act right away. I can breathe into them and calm them for a minute.

Too involved
In the past couple of days I have realized that I don’t get as much benefit from meditations that focus on my being an uninvolved observer. As a very new user, this is too advanced for me. I get better results from focused breathing right now, but maybe soon I will be able to stand outside my thoughts and feelings.

Thinking...
I have thoughts. I created them, but I am not them. I can notice them, but then let them go if I choose. Or I can turn into them if I think about them long enough and with enough emotion. That’s powerfully simple and certainly worth thinking about. ✌🏼❤️

The observer
I am not my thoughts. How many times must I tell myself that before I really absorb it’s full meaning? The metaphor of the river was very powerful for me. I could imagine myself in the river, like a rock with the current rushing past me. I like this better than imagining that my thoughts are clouds. Clouds are far away, but I am in the river and I can feel the current of thoughts and emotions pushing against my body wanting to carry me away with them.

Debt
My thoughts went straight to my credit card debt. Ugh. I tried “observing “ and “watching it pass by” but no. It causes me angst. I know I put myself in this position but ok. Sigh...

I liked this concept of being a rock in a river. You aren’t drowning in the river, the water just moves around you. You are strong:)

The River
For me, it would have been easier to envision rising instead of sinking toward the end of this meditation on being a rock in the river. But the imagery of thoughts and feelings becoming the current while I was a rock was helpful.

The River
I liked this imagery of thoughts moving along with the river currents. It is similar to imagining them as clouds moving through the sky. I usually am annoyed by my thoughts as I attempt meditation and am appreciative of any reminder to acknowledge these thoughts and just let them roll by.

Middle Ground
I feel that I am not good enough, broken, heavy, a burden. He doesn’t want to be around me, he wants his own life. I have my own life but I have fully invested myself in our relationship, planning a house, baby etc, trying to get my health in order. If I act out my emotions, I push him away, and if I hide them, I push him away. I need to find a middle ground. I cannot be angry anymore. I am turning into a monster, I hate it. This is not me... where is my emotional regulation?

Smooth, strong rock
Like a rock in the riverbed, I really like the analogy. I am strong. I can center, breathe and get through the stress.
