We can practice mindfulness in any posture, including standing. You can do this either as a special practice, or by learning to 'turn on' mindfulness in your daily life, any time you're standing, maybe waiting in line, can become a meditation - far better than getting impatient and annoyed!

Standing meditation
I learned if waiting in line or in a situation where I have to stand for a long time or am annoyed, if I bring my attention to myself and all the different sensations of standing I can focus on that to help time go by than being annoyed, tired and so on.

I noticed that when standing your body subtly sways forward and back, and and tiny, almost involuntary muscle contractions in your legs help you stay upright.

I often feel irritated when I’m in a long, slow-moving line. If I can take my attention away from from waiting, and feel the sensations of my body, not only will it take my mind off the line, but I will also feel calm.

I used to be the type of person who was easily angered and others easily made me feel extremely irritated because of meditating everyday I turned those negative emotions and turned them into positive ones. It’s easy to change how you feel or by simply changing the way you think, feel, and view the world.

While sitting is the most common of postures people get in while meditating, there are three other postures we can explore too. These are standing, walking and lying down. In this meditation, we practice standing and explore what it feels like to do so. Standing, I brought awareness to the breath and felt the belly rising and falling along with other parts of my body. Standing, I brought awareness to my feet and noticed the slight sway the body does to keep balanced. Standing, I brought awareness to the rest of my body and again, noticed the gentle swaying my body does. Standing, I noticed how nice it feels to stand and become grounded. Thank you! I am a tree, standing tall and steady, yet swaying with the changing winds at the same time. Namaste 🙏🏻❤️☮️
