This long meditation can help us learn to sit and do nothing while we focus on our breathing to start with. This can help to settle and stabilize the mind in the beginning, especially if our minds are busy. Then paying attention to the body, once again helping our mind to be with present loment experiences rather than jumping around and thinking about things. Eventually, we just rest in the space we have created for ourselves. Yes, the mind might still be busy be we may be more able to just be here with it and allow it more space to move around and not bother us.
