Without awareness, it’s easy to spend quality time focused on the challenges of life, far more than what is good. This meditation invites us spend a few minutes with something great in our lives! In so doing, help us to improve our ability to pay attention to the pleasant moments in our day. Photo by Khadeeja Yasser on Unsplash

Helpful transitional meditation from past to present.
When it’s difficult to settle into meditating this session does a great job of helping you to do that. It uses a pleasant memory from the past to bring about body awareness and observing thoughts to the present. This way your body relaxes you can observe your thoughts and then release them.

Tonight I learned an easy way to bring positive feelings and sensations into my present day by remembering past positive experiences. This can improve any day that is less than joyful, by savoring these positive memories.

Breath
I’d never really thought about it until today, but conscious breath—breathing in deeply, holding a moment, then fully exhaling— feels good. Conscious breath contains joy.

The past is past, but still here
When I started my meditation practice, I would dismiss the past as “no longer.” This meditation reminded me that the past lives on in its influence on now, much like the influence my grandparents or a teacher who is now past still influences who I am. Selecting the positive past to mindfully impact today is a powerful way to set the tone I will take with me as the morning unfolds.

Recollection
Mindfulness, meaning being aware of the present moment without judgment, is actually pretty hard because of all of our past experiences in addition to the present circumstances, not to mention worry of future events, can alter our reaction to the present circumstances. And by recollecting a good event or a happy time in your life you can bring a joyful and pleasant attitude into the present circumstance. It does seem kind of weird that by recollecting something nice, in other words thinking of the past, you can alter your present moment. Peace...

Savoring. This was a particularly good meditation because of what it teaches you. It helps you to value something important but not worry about so much. I have my uncle here for the holidays, we had a great Christmas and now we have pneumonia for New Year’s. He leaves in a few days, I feel sad. Thank you, Aura! Have a great day, Everyone!😀

It’s crazy how simply recalling a positive memory can have such a huge positive impact on our present moment. It really just hammers home for me how much control I have over my mood at any given moment and reaction to anything that may arise.

Day 3, what I learned
With this session, I learned that when I am in a certain situation, whether I’m having a good time with friends, enjoying the company of my family, or even treating myself to something I enjoy doing, I should embrace that feeling of happiness and recognize that happiness is so easy to find. I should focus on the smaller things that make my heart happy now, instead of worrying about what the future holds.

Warmth from Reflection
Too often, I feel like we're encouraged not to live in the past and focus on the present. While being present is a good message, it was nice to reflect on a truly happy moment from the past, which made me smile and feel warm, and now I'm in a happy state of mind for the day!

I enjoyed doing this meditation because it made me recall events that were happy and joyful. For me, my current days are what I thought of which was amazing, because I have been feeling like my best self. Even though I may not be able to stay focused on the meditations each day, I still am proud that I do meditate every morning.

Day 3
Not only can I access happy moments, but I can utilize those moments to bring forth joy and bliss in the present time. I felt light and airy, and some of the best I’ve felt in stressful times, so knowing that I can access this excitement whenever I want/need is really wonderful and it makes me feel powerful and happy!

recollection
the coach was surrounded by his players in the locker room after the championship game they were all down on one knee you could hear a pin drop bruised battered bloody exhausted victorious they all looked up at him and waited “It has been said that all glory is fleeting. Time will take away your youth, your strength, your quickness. Perhaps bad luck or the choices you make will take away your money, your friends, your family, maybe even the ring that tonight’s victory gives you the right to wear. But the one thing they can never take is your recollection of this season, of this team, which you will always belong to, of what you achieved. Together. I couldn’t be prouder and consider it a privilege to have been your coach.”

Happy times
Every experience we have no matter how little or how big it was has affected us to this very moment for if something was different we wouldn’t be who we are exactly today. I think that’s so hard to grasp and understand but the world truly brings in and out things that are needed. Hold on the happy moments. Never let them fade.

Oddly in this session I learned how controlling I am in instances in life. I went back to a time I felt most at peace, content and wanting to savor the moment. It was with an old love. I had woken up and he poured me a cup of coffee I sat up early that morning enjoying the sunrise from the living room in the rental house. Beautiful kitchen beautiful place. I felt at home. He on the floor cuddling the dog. In that moment I just wanted it all to last forever. Maybe I need to learn to let go and just be more present like I was then.

Joy
People often tell me, that when I am feeling and doing well I bring a sense of pure joy with me. That I fill a room with laughter and smiles. I’m not the clowning type—it’s not like that. I can’t express it. When I did this meditation and thought of that particularly pleasant moment I felt that same joy and freedom sweep over me. I even let out a small chuckle!

Realize
The thought that something that no longer is in the physical does still exist in the non-physical is heartwarming and simply excruciating at the same time but, I hadn’t been able to do that until now. Experience a recollection of one hundred percent pure positive love. I had been focusing on the lack of something that wasn’t able to let go of. Not trying to be grateful for the love I had been in when he was here... Thank you for that. I needed it more than I have ever needed anything before.

Simple Pleasures
This meditation is wonderful to begin your day with! The practice is that you think about a time in your past where you were happy, excited and full of joy. Begin to feel the sensations that arise in your body by remembering that memory and then bring those thoughts and sensations into the present moment. I felt an array of sensations, mainly in my heart space, when I thought of my memory. It was of a time with my late father and us going on my first roller coaster together At Knots Berry Farm. It was so thrilling, yet a little terrifying at the same time. He held my hand and I knew that I would be okay. I remember being so happy that I began to have a smile on my face during this meditation. My heart space began to warm remembering such a lovely memory of my father. I will relish in those sensations and bring it into the present moment. Each moment is precious. It is the simple pleasures, moment to moment, that I will savor. Namaste! 🙏🏻❤️😊

Disneyland!
Since Cherish went back to Knott’s Berry Farm on her listen of this session, I went back to Disneyland on one of my most favorite trips ever to that theme park! We treated our best friend and her son to a big extended family trip there several years ago, before my stroke. Had a wonderful time! All seven of us crammed into a nice hotel room off-property. Big morning breakfasts at the hotel together. Walking hand-in-hand with my best friend Amy along the path between the Matterhorn and Sleeping beauty Castle. A visit to Build-a-Bear Workshop in Downtown Disney, where Amy bought my youngest daughter Ariel a cute kitten character plush animal. Running into friends also visiting the resort that day! Our whole group ”DisneyBounding” one day (I dressed up to emulate my spirit animal Goofy!) What a GREAT trip that was! The stroke could never have erased that particular set of happy family memories!
