As humans, our default mental mode often looks like worry or stress, or at the very least, running through our to-do list. In meditation, we can shift that default mode by asking our minds to dwell on happier memories and experiences. The more you do this practice, the more you will change the neural pathways in your brain, and the more happiness you will welcome into your day. I learned it is possible to find happiness in peace. In the still, quietness at the core of my being I found what we seek is never outside of us. Grieving happiness
Coming home at the end of the day to an excited two year old running into your arms melts all my stress & worries away. There is something peaceful & calming to spend the remaining hours with my little ladybug. I miss these moments so much. Midway through the meditation I started crying tears of sorrow. I only get this happy memory once a week now. I miss that reunion more than words can say. It is the best feeling in the world to know that you are loved, important, missed and valued.

My memory went back to my childhood and some other moments in the distant past. I realize that I need to make some current happy moments so today I will go for a nature walk. I’m missing out on so much because I’ve been under the weather. So off I go to create a new moment in time that I can reflect back to as a good memory.🌈

I focused on two memories- 1. Yesterdays passion for my research, feeling connected to and affirmed by the work of other researchers, excited with possibility and learning, understanding what might be ahead, and assured that I can rise to the challenge. 2. A sweet, very beautiful simple moment with C & D. When he climbed up in bed between us and we joked that we were all an ice cream sandwich my heart soared. I felt confident and calm in my ability to be a partner to someone who is a parent. And to provide love to a child. That any worry about not knowing what to do evaporates and natural instincts of love and joy kicked in. Im so grateful for that happy memory and hope to create many more.

Happiness is seeing your grown children react with one another. I am remembering a time when two of my boys were talking together just about nothing and how it was a joy to see them laugh with each other. These are good memories, and I am so thankful to have those memories to reflect on.

Bonfiring...
I was transported back to the beach at an after-the-wedding party for my youngest son. The ocean was roaring at the wind so we dug a pit at the end of a partially buried log and got the fire started. I had been collecting wood for a couple days so I thought we were set. Couple hours went by & it was well after midnight when the wind really picked up and we burned thru our stash to try and stay warm. So I went on a scavenger hunt and came back with a huge log that ended up lasting us til about 4 a.m. when We finally called it quits. It was right about them that the rain came and washed all the evidence of us even being there away! It was a very happy time with family!! 🌊🔥🏝

I was transported back to Lisbon airport in January when I met this person after a long time. And I felt so happy to just be in the same room with this person. What an amazing feeling that was. 😊

Unfortunately, you’ve managed to stain most of the happy moments I’ve felt. Going through this meditation, every memory I go back to, you’ve managed to tear apart piece by piece. How? I want to go back to a different version of myself. The one who truly believed in finding happiness in their surroundings, not relying on finding joy in people. The one who understood people come and go but the sun, the waves, the clouds, the wildflowers... their beauty will always shine for you. I guess if I want to go back to a moment where I truly savored happiness, it would be a more shielded version of myself. Where I truly felt the joy of watching the sky transition from orange yellows to purple blues. The one who understood that people are fragile, ever-changing. What did I expect giving my all to someone who could be so fragile?

I have recently experienced two major life changes. I recently moved to be closer to family and recently resigned from my teaching job. Before choosing the house I moved to, I almost settled for a house that I intuitively knew I wouldn’t be happy in. I have been SO happy in this house and area. Even though I am still settling in, I spend my days filled with gratitude. I am also filled with immense gratitude that I chose to resign from a position in which I wasn’t appreciated, even though I know not what I shall do next. Each day I savor the joy of my choices.

Although I know I have had happy times and moments recently I found it hard to picture one quickly enough and in any detail so I ended up trying to imagine feeling happy instead of the specific event. However I can see how that could really put a positive spin on a day or moment I think I just need to be more prepared. Also because there is lots going on to cause worry and stress at the moment it is hard not to have that interfering with the otherwise happy event or moment and marring.it a bit. My heart space grew warmer and larger as I imagined the going away party/gathering we just had with oldest sister, my youngest son & his wife, my parents & a few of their friends. I felt happy and joy during our time together and was able to relive this during this meditation. This will be helpful to remember after my parents move south to my other sisters next month. Over 6 hours away will make visiting them more difficult but I know they will have a better daily quality of life there. I will need to remember this meditation & revisit often when missing them. When we recall a happy memory, it initiates a relaxation response throughout our body. Sitting into a comfortable position with one hand over my heart I breathe into my hearts space. Recalling one moment of happiness from the weekend, sitting around a campfire with my husband comes to mind. Feeling a little chill in the air, listening to the frogs around the pond, watching and listening to the fire crackle, while enjoying dessert from the only restaurant in the area brings a warm smile to my face and warms my heart. The peaceful feeling I felt there has returned to my being. I take a deep breath in savoring this memory for one more moment before slowly exhaling to return back to my day. I am left with feelings of joy and contentment which is such a nice way to begin the day.
