Remember that the breath is always there for you to return to as latch for your attention.
I’m so not used to focusing on my breathing and in fact, I’m sure I have some bad breathing habits that contribute to stress, etc. So exercises like this make me self conscious of breathing at first and then trying too hard and losing the breath and purpose all together.
I kind of feel that my breath is like when they can’t find a pulse on someone right away - the person is clearly alive but they have to go deeper or closer to hear their insides.
Also, I don’t know how to surf so the metaphor wasn’t as powerful on occasions. Otherwise, when I relaxed a bit, my breathing felt very much like a wave.
