In this practice, we can learn to just observe what is happening in the mind. Being able to remain in our practice and in the moment when thoughts arise. Very useful in learning to let go of strong emotions and thinking patterns. We can become acquainted with the flow of things in our minds and just watch instead of becoming too involved.
