Chronic pain causes anxiety, stress, and sleep disturbance. But focusing too deeply on the pain itself usually only makes it worse. The practice of mindfulness utilizes a part of the mind that can observe/notice the sensations of pain without attaching worrying thoughts to them. This usually makes it easier to manage.
