Not Today
An overcast, lazy Sunday afternoon
light drizzle misting the grass
My friend was munching as I read
his button nose twitching
ears tucked back
fur glistening with raindrops
Suddenly, out of nowhere, a magnificent hawk swooped from the sky
his wingspan must have been five feet across
talons like garden claws made of dragon glass
A razor sharp beak, curved to a deadly point...
But the bunny was lucky and disappeared into the brush, cheating death by just a split second.
The hawk landed right outside the screened in porch. That’s when he noticed me. Our eyes locked. He cocked his head as if to say “What are you doing here?” and then in a flurry of flapping he was gone...
