Patience
We need to be careful with instant gratification. For example, a burger with fries could give us instant happiness at the moment, but could lead to long term health problems, which could then lead to emotional problems. If we work on being self-aware and being patient, we can guide our behaviors to lead us into long term positive emotional health.

Instant Gratification
I am so enjoying your sessions, Neha! Thank you so much for giving of yourself to others so we may learn a better way of living! Having patience has not come to me easily in my life. As you mentioned, the emotional mind and the analytical mind are in constant competition with each other. Decisions that are made spontaneously; especially for instant gratification, are made with the emotional mind. And as we repeat the behavior in question; such as eating that juicy cheeseburger or taking off to spend time with a romantic interest that clearly no longer serves us, trains our mind to accept that behavior as okay. Applying the analytical mind looks at truth and facts logically in order to arrive at a decision. In addition, going for instant gratification may lead to self-doubt, loneliness, and regret. You mentioned a great strategy of pausing, breathing, or putting time in between the thought or feeling and the action you are considering. I learned so much. One thing I'm certain of is: patience and self-awareness play a big role in our lives. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป
