Mindful of Thoughts
In this day six meditation of the ten day series, William sets our intention on focusing on what we have learned thus far in the series; our breath, sensations in our body and sounds. Then he introduces us to intentionally bring awareness to our thoughts as they arise in our minds. The key though, is to bring ourselves to just observe our thoughts without getting caught up into thinking about them.
Sitting in a chair, I began to bring awareness to my breath and then expanded it to my body as a whole. I checked in with how my posture was and corrected it. Then, I began to observe sounds in my surroundings while trying to not label the sounds themselves. Leaving the sounds to subside in my mind, I tuned into my thoughts. It felt as if my thoughts were records in a juke box, lining up and changing with each moment. Instead of getting caught up into thinking about one thought, I observed them as thoughts, recognizing them and then allowing them to dissolve.
This meditation taught me that by recognizing and allowing thoughts to just come and go is another conscious way of practicing mindfulness! Thank you, William!
