I never realized how cathartic it would be to hear someone else say that it’s okay and normal to feel this way. I never really believed myself when I said it because in my work environment anxiety and depression may as well not exist. It’s considered a crutch and an excuse. The validation that these feelings are normal and that other people are dealing with the same thing makes me feel a lot better.

I have been practicing mindfulness on and off the last couple of years and I appreciate how these brief mindful sessions focusing on interrupting anxious habits of mind and replacing them with different ones can differ from the typical guided and unguided meditations I am used to. A difference in perspective and practice are always welcome in my book.

Before I started this and a little in the beginning of this session too I couldn’t focus, it was hard for me to let go of my thoughts and just let them flood my brain. I have anxiety and depression and I’m dealing with a bunch of stress on top of that which definitely doesn’t help. After about a little over a minute into this session I just listened to her voice and I repeated what she said and just let my head go to her voice and it made me feel.. whole again, peaceful, I was in no pain like I always am, relaxed, calm, at ease, etc. Overall it helped me to just gather my thoughts and just to take a breathe and relax. Realize my situations and just take one step at a time. I am going to be okay, it is okay to feel this way and this helped me realize. ❤️

I have so many tests this upcoming week and I really need to do well on them to keep my average in all my classes good. But i’ve realized that as I am constantly thinking about all of these things, I keep adding on more to worry about and i’m not focusing on anything good. It’s all stress and negative thoughts around me. I need to start thinking of positive thoughts and stop being so anxious all the time. All the bad stuff needs to be let out and I can then start enjoying the good things.

Having a busy schedule lined up for today I noticed I had a lot of tension in my chest when I started - it felt like I was wearing a tight vest or more like a body cast that was limiting how deep I could breathe. She got me on a nice deep breathing rhythm that actually felt like it was breaking up & chipping away at the cast from the inside out. Then she said I was ok to feel this way (which I thought was weird at first) & to drop my shoulders & soften my body and the cast fell apart and I was able to really take an extra big breath and blow it all away. So my re-learn was to not always fight it - but maybe I just need to relax & soften up a bit and it will be ok! ❤️☮️🍀

How to feel?
The scary thing is I’ve been told my entire life, by my own family, that the way I feel whether it’d be emotionally, religiously, physically, etc...it was not ok to feel things that didn’t follow the family’s unified ideology, one being that everyone needed to suck it up through everything and another was that the house was a christian household and that you could not live there otherwise. If I appeared to go against the family code, I’d be called an ungrateful bitch, a pussy, an attention seeker, fake crier, a liar, etc...basically not regarding my feelings and opinions as valid emotions: for example, I remember one night when I was out to dinner with my mother. This was a time when my husband was so stressed at work that it was really affecting his health and his home life, which was affecting me. Also my mother had been planning a wedding ceremony for us since we couldn’t have one in the beginning due to her kicking me out of her house which then I could only move in with him if we were married (military thing and another story for another time). Anyway, my mother was explaining plans to a mutual friend of ours, was kinda being pushy about plans and I tried to give a suggestion, not a demand or another option, a suggestion. She brushed it off with a snarky comment and at that point I just broke down, I had snapped and I couldn’t stop crying. Her response was to turn to the friend, while I was sobbing, and say “oh, she’s fake crying. Can’t you tell”? I was so embarrassed after that because she made me out to be a liar. It’s sounds like a horrible boyfriend that I should’ve broken up with years ago but it seems to be much harder when it’s people who are suppose to be family. However, I have finally cut them out of my life for good and I’m moving forward, with my Husband’s help. My reason for sharing this story is that I don’t know what is ok or how to say “it’s ok to feel this way” when I’m sad or stressed. But hopeful there will be a day I don’t cry when it’s said

But it’s also important to be able to step back and breathe (something I’ve been doing more of) and to be mindful of these feelings and not ignore it or fight it. I woke up this morning unsure how to feel. Today is the 9 year anniversary of my dad’s passing. I told Aura I was feeling sad and this was the meditation that came up. I didn’t know what to expect, I figured I’d just focus on my breathing. When she said to place my hands on my heart I did so & I just took a deep breath and let go. I began to cry. And as she validate my feelings, told me it was okay, it was okay to feel this way, I just let it all go. I payed no attention to any particular thought other than the fact that it was okay to feel this way. I still focused my breathing & steadied it as she finished out the meditation & i stopped my crying & slowed my breathing as the session came to a close. 3 minutes, it only took a 3 minute release and already I feel valid in my grief but I also don’t feel despair or sadness. I accept today. I acknowledge my grief but also my gratitude for the life long lesson of losing a parent. I’m really grateful for this one today. It blows my mind just how powerful these mindful moments can be.

My body began to relax as I began to address myself with words of compassion; I was indeed being unkind to myself by judging my emotions. I was preventing my emotions from being expressed properly and in a healthy manner. I realise that my psychotic symptoms represent a deep, dark vortex that pulls me in and I often don’t allow myself the permission to leave. That I even have the permission not to give into it is something that I have not been aware of. Until now. I have been trying to suppress, hide, and deny the existence of this vortex so as to be able to avoid it. Which has actually been making it much more powerful than I imagined. I can and have been able to consciously choose not to give into this vetoes of voices and delusional thoughts looking around inside my head. I don’t believe that I need to constantly torture myself. I will meditate more to try and stop this from happening all the time.

Having compassion towards others difficulties comes much easier for me, but having compassion towards myself requires work. Hopefully, one day having compassion towards self becomes automatic and natural.

This is the first time a guided meditation has ever made me cry. I feel so at ease because I let go of my worries when I told myself, it’s ok, it’s alright. It’s okay to feel like this.

I learned that it is okay to have moments when you feel sad, down and unhappy... people always try and not show weakness by letting things get us down but in the end I’m only human and I am allowed to feel this way <3

First Exercise ever
I learned that my mind is even more chaotic and scrambled than I originally thought. Also that I am my worst enemy and internalize the worst case scenarios on repeat and need to take time out of my day for as little as 3minutes and just say to myself “It’s Okay” and recenter.
