I can take control of what I feel. I have to create awareness of how stress can take away important hours, days of my life. I have to use my energy to a more deserving of my attention and my time - my family. This is a good start to break a bad habit. To a brighter future and a change lifestyle!

Life is like a pinball box
I go through day to day with concerns of the what may be or the unknown. Even at times where I should just relax and enjoy the moment, my mind is preoccupied at some level with worry. If I'm with a group of friends or family, I would be anxious hoping the ordeal would be smooth and I wouldn't embarrass myself or think of something to put me in a good light. If I am watching a program, I would think about what needs to be accomplished after or other types of anxieties. It's from the very state of anxiety which produces negative events. The mind is racing and unable to have a clear thought of the situation. I must replace these worries with happiness. Focus less on what may be, and focus what is on hand. I don't need to keep my guard up. I may had a rough, dangerous, and turbulent upbringing, but I have the ability to exercise some control over my life. Everything will be ok...

Worry is a misuse of my imagination. It cannot change the outcome and it is not helpful to a decision making process. It is a protection mechanism designed to keep me safe, but really it is restricting me and causing me unnecessary suffering. I need to let go of the anxiety and the worry. Accept that I cannot know what will be or how I will feel until I get there, until I am immersed in experience. I will make mistakes, it will be tough, I will meet many challenges and obstacles. I am committed to going and worry is unproductive and drains much needed energy. Channel worry into positive emotions- I can do this, I am strong, I am independent, I can make mistakes. Everything does not have to be perfect. It will be alright.

As I've practiced meditation and learned more about mindfulness I've become more aware of my thoughts. In doing so I've learned that I'm not my thoughts but I have developed the ability to become the "watcher" of them. When you are able to do this you have more insight into the patterns of negative self talk and well ingrained belief systems that do not serve you. It is there where you can begin the process of changing those patterns with curious compassion.

I learned that...everything will be okay. I need to try and take deep breathes even if it doesn’t feel nice. It’s good to just take a moment to yourself and reflect. While listening to the meditation guide part of me felt at ease. I have never liked meditating with someone talking to me, but for once it wasn’t half bad. My anxiety chest pains are not gone but for a second they were. The only downside was that two seconds after the meditation was over, it was like I could feel my heartbeat moving my whole body. My heart wasn’t racing necessarily but I could feel my arms moving and sides moving as if my heartbeat was radiating through my whole body. Before this, I looked up anxiety chest pains, but I wasn’t expecting to read anything hat said this feeling I have is normal. Reading that there are other people out there who feel the same thing was reassuring in a way-I know I’m not an abnormality. Now that I hunk of it hough on this vast planet it’s very hard to be alone in terms feelings.

What a beautiful metaphor. Sometimes I find myself self-shaming for obsessive worrisome thoughts I can’t control, attempting to unplug my pinball machine all together. When life is hectic, it is like a crazy flashing and violent pinball machine. But I can choose the speed at which to release the ball. I can choose to activate the paddles wildly or strategically. I can choose to target my efforts to certain elements, that will brighten the machine with goo light. I can focus on the positive in my life. The love of my daughters. The support of my wife. The support of my family. All the nice things I have and the luxuries I am able to enjoy. Make sure I take time to do just that, recognize and enjoy.

Just press pause on negative thoughts, don’t allow them to ruin your day
Sometimes when negative thoughts intrude or are triggered by others/situations, you can simply say “no, not right now”, and kindly park it on one side. Not dismissing it, just acknowledging those thoughts and emotions, and saying that now you do not choose to engage with them. Instead, you can allow yourself to continue to enjoy what you were doing, or can use a positive memory or thought to empower your mind - because ultimately what you think about can be chosen, and those negative thoughts do not have all encompassing power. Unbelievably, what comes to mind is Harry Potter - summon a patronus by focusing on something positive and beautiful, as when facing negativity and darkness it will give you strength.

Pattern of Worry
Each time a thought gets fired off, they have a positive, negative or neutral effect on us. In this way, we can imagine our thoughts as a ball being released and bouncing around in a pinball machine. Some thoughts will light up the machine, causing a lot of sound while others will get shot right down the shoot. Unfortunately, a lot of us have negative patterns of thought, leading us to worry. I have experience with these negative patterns of thought myself, as I would worry to the extreme, where making even the slightest decision became an excruciating task. In this meditation, Lauren has us repeat a powerful affirmation that begins to clear this pattern of worry. Following Lauren’s guidance, I began to repeat this powerful affirmation. By repeating this affirmation, I have chosen not just to clear the symptom of worry, I have chosen to clear the root cause of this pattern of worry. I have begun the process of making new beneficial neural pathways in my brain by way of of saying this affirmation and I choose thoughts that will light up the pinball machine. I highly recommend this meditation for anyone who may have patterns of thought that cause them to worry. Listen to both versions, write down this powerful affirmation and read it for at least 21 days so that the pattern of worry becomes a thought pattern of the past. Namaste 🙏🏻❤️☮️

We Have Choice
I loved the pinball analogy and agree that one thought can spark lights, bump into other things, and cause disturbance. The idea of choosing what thought to fire is as always easier said than done, but the analogy helps to visualize the purpose of knowing and observing what thought is sent off as the pinball.

Choose thoughts
We control when how and what we think. If we imagine our thoughts contributing to lighting up our pinball machine or in my case I imagined a garden of plants it is much easier to steer our thoughts and imagine positively. Let go of worry in the past, present and future. Replace it with what lights up your machine or makes your garden grow.
