Your Behaviors are defined as your 'actions' and 'reactions'. Your behaviors are the result of how you feel and what you think. In this episode of CBT 'Best Practices', I help you illuminate your thoughts (as the starting point for understanding your behaviors) together with the best practices for how to change your behavior; to be in control of what you say and do, because of the power that you hold to change your perceptions and thinking. This episode ties it all together: your thoughts, feelings and behaviors as the three eminent elements of CBT. Let's dive into this together! p.s. There is a lot to take in, in each of these episodes of CBT 'Best Practices', including takeaway strategies and tools that you can immediately apply in your life! Listen with a way to take notes so that you can turn each episode into the change that you seek in your life! Well done!! Please join me for more CBT 'Best Practices' here! Namaste!

Challenging your thoughts
My emotions are based on my feelings and feelings are based on my thoughts how I behave is how I feel and I feel based on my thoughts. Challenge my thoughts What was I just thinking? Origin of feelings and behavior Where’s the evidence for my thoughts Prove my thought to be true, is it valid? Look for alternate ways to think of a situation Examine what I know to be true

I felt heard
I need to stop and thinking before reacting. Think about how i would like to react to an unpleasant situation instead of automatically getting angry or defensive

Okay but what about when you have an answer to the question? Where’s the evidence that I freak out at social gatherings and then it’s like let me pull out my scroll and now I’m remembering all this?
It is really invalidating to hear that she thinks if we feel overwhelmed by our emotions it’s cuz they aren’t valid because when emotions are valid we “don’t” feel overwhelmed. Makes no sense.

Behavior is…
Behavior is a direct response to my feelings that are brought on by thoughts at any given moment. Am I at peace in my heart? Am I challenging negativity? My behavior takes form by way of my reaction or action…. I must strive to be actively aware whether or not I’m behaving in a way that I’d want another person to behave towards me. If not, how do I change my feelings in order for my thoughts to better serve all involved parties?

I’m the problem
I’ve been learning that, I am the problem. I don’t have a “chemical imbalance” or anything wrong with me, I am what’s wrong. I am flawed. It’s my thoughts, my perception that shape my feelings, moods and behaviors. I am to blame, not what is going on around me. I was told not to swim in the problem, I don’t know how to not swim in the problem, when I am the problem. These meditations are just now starting to make me aware of how much chaos I have caused in my own life and in the lives of everyone around me. It may get better, but right now, I feel horrible. My thinking is what causes all of my suffering. I wish someone could tell me how to think about this differently, but I am defective. I need to fix that, but it seems to be so permanently a part of me. I am so discouraged. I try to follow along and reframe my thoughts, and believe they are not me, but so far I don’t.
