Sometimes when we are focusing on our breath, we try to analyze it and if it isn’t to our liking, we try to change it. In this meditation, Cassandra has us welcome our breath just the way it is.
As I got comfortable in my chair, I began to focus on my breath. I noticed how my chest and belly rise and the in flow and out flow of air through my nostrils with each new breath. After a while, I noticed my breath begin to deepen all of its own, giving me a sense of peace and calm. Indeed, this welcoming of my breath, just as it is, was incredibly freeing.
Allowing our breath to be as it is teaches us about acceptance. When we accept things as they are, we lessen our chances of any unnecessary suffering because we aren’t trying to change anything, but rather going with the flow of life.
