Noticing Anxiety and Easing Anxiety
What causes anxiety?
For me, I am very aware and I know what causes my anxiety at this moment — I have a major exam today, and I am in a (metaphorical) life-or-death situation:
If I do not ace this exam, I have to repeat my entire course year at university — something which I am actively avoiding.
The weight and significance of this exam hence affects my emotions and state of being greatly.
What I learnt:
Notice how the anxiety is affecting my state of being — mind, body and spirit.
For me, when I am anxious, my mind becomes paralysed; physically, I would chronically vomit (multiple times within an hour) and have diarrhoea — this happens pior to exams, and when I have a full day of lectures and seminars back-to-back without even a lunch break.
Ways to reduce anxiety:
Deep breathing, and be mindful of one's breath often, through out the day, every day.
When one is anxious, one is often short of breath.
I shall try listening to this whenever anxiety and panic attack hits before every test, big or small.
