Appreciation and gratitude
This meditation put a great smile on my face as I focused on positive and happy events from the past couple weeks, from loving kind connections with cherished people in my life to the amazing oak tree in my front yard. As I began pulling these moments forward with awareness and gratitude, more and more moments tumbled forward, big and small, rolling through my mind, bringing me more and more joy. Like attracts like.
The negativity bias is real. Our brains are wired to generally put more emphasis on negative events, even when those events have an equal or less intense emotional experience than positive or neutral events. Our brains naturally focus on the negative, but we have the power to change that! We can take charge, we can re-train and re-wire our brains by doing exactly what this meditation encourages us to do!
It all starts with baby steps. It all starts with one choice at a time in the present moment. It all starts with asking yourself what you can do in this moment to create your best future self? It’s not easy, the best things rarely are. It does get easier and easier. Like attracts like.
