Sight unseen
It is a great oversight on my part that I wake up everyday, before I start my meditation or prayers, having subconscious expectations that everything I “need” to work will work. My senses, my organs, my car, my electricity etc etc. How I can take things for granted, when four years ago I nearly lost all functions due to neuropathy and diabetes, is a human marvel. Yes, we push on, but we should take time daily to appreciated the many gifts we, too often, perceive as guarantees. Sight is no different. Beyond the natural functions of our eyes goes also a different sight that allows us to see deeper into the natural world and see the people around us. I’m careful today not to just walk by others as if they don’t exist, as often happens in modern society, but to acknowledge them and take in their wonderful existence. Love despite not being received. Smile despite being scoffed. Tolerate despite ignorance and the backdrop of an impatient world...
