There is an old parable about a lion and a dog. When a stick is thrown, the dog chases it again and again. The lion, instead of chasing, turns its steady gaze toward the one who threw it. Calm. Alert. Unmoved by distraction. Life throws us sticks all the time: a careless comment, something someone did or didn't do, a future conversation we rehearse, a thought that keeps looping. We can chase each one, replaying and tightening, or we can pause and remain present. This meditation offers a space to practice that steady gaze.
