Time Consuming
Today was particularly tough for me. I'm a lawyer, and have been fighting one particular case since I earned my license in 2012. My client was nearly killed when his truck was pushed under the back of an 18-wheeler. One of his passengers died, and my client's pelvis and femurs were crushed by the engine being forced onto his lap. > $1M in medical bills. On top of that, two of his sons had been killed in a similar accident a few years earlier. The trial court dismissed the case. The Court of Appeal reversed. Today, I got notice that the Supreme Court reversed the Appeal, and dismissed the case - without an opportunity for argument. I put years into this and fought as hard as I could against lawyers far more experienced. I put my sweat blood and tears into this case, and now it's hard to not feel like a failure.
This meditation didn't make anything better, HOWEVER, it taught me to focus on the good. "Lawyer" is what I do. It does not define me. Father, husband, friend - that's who I am!
