Substituting…
If we find ourselves feeling the same emotions such as sadness, anger, depression or anxiety, there is a recurring thought pattern behind them creating these waves. To break this, we need to get intimate with our thoughts.
As I listened to this track, I realized when I experience strong emotions, there is a thought of ‘I should’ or ‘they should’ something. Another thought I sense is, ‘I have to’. This word, should and have to reaffirms the doubt, which causes the anxiety or frustration I sometimes feel.
Instead of the word, should or have to, I will begin to substitute the word, prefer and get to. This word, prefer acknowledges that I am wanting things to be different without the added shame. This word, get to reminds me of how fortunate I am. Substituting these words will reacquaint me with what I can control, which is the way I relate to what is happening. Thank you for this informative meditation!
