Big Max Thundercheeks is a tiny mouse with a big heart. One night, he goes out, armed with his firefly torch, and meets a wise owl, a cat with a sore paw, a hedgehog, and a turtle. He learns some valuable lessons about life and friendship. The story ends with Big Max returning to his family and his cozy bed.
