Tonglen for the Individual
Tonglen is an ancient Tibetan Buddhist meditation practice, where the practitioner uses their breath to take in all of the pain and suffering of another individual or group of sentient beings. They then destroy the pain and suffering in their heart and exhale relaxation and relief to this same person or group. In this short Tonglen practice, you will utilize your breath to heal another person who you will invite into your meditation with you. Before you start, I invite you to think of a family member or friend who might need some help. I hope you enjoy it, and if you would like to connect further with me, you can follow me on Instagram at @yogi.bry or visit my website at www.yogibry.com.
It can be helpful in times when we are struggling to meditate on impermanence or the fact that everything is in a constant state of change - even ourselves. Remembering impermanence can help motivate us to stay present and enjoy this beautiful life we were gifted. I hope you enjoy it.
Future Refuge Meditation
Have you ever thought about a past event and wished that you knew what you know now? In this meditation, we play with visiting a future version of ourselves so that we can practice that with our current self. The secret is that you have all of the answers within yourself to be able to stay resilient in the present, even when it seems hard. I hope you enjoy it.
Practicing gratitude can be so healing, especially in moments when we may be struggling. Often, it can help bring color back into our world. I invite you to play with the short practice as a simple tool to invite in a sense of appreciation for the present moment. I hope you enjoy it.
Chakra Alignment Meditation
The Chakras, as taught in ancient Hinduism, are energy centers in the body where nerves, organs, and connective tissue meet. They are areas where we can often feel physical and emotional tension or ease, depending on our alignment. Use this brief meditation practice to allow your breath to travel up and down these six points in the body and bring a sense of energy to your day. I hope you enjoy it.
The Stream of Sleep Meditation
Allow yourself the gift of slipping into a deep sleep by utilizing this meditation and imagery of your body floating heavily down a stream on a soft, light cushion. Relaxing in the warmth of the sun as you ease tension throughout your body, step by step. I hope you enjoy it.
Meridian Circuit Meditation
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), we have meridian pathways in our body that act as energetic highways and allow for the flow of energy, known as Qi, to circulate throughout the body. Meridians exist in corresponding pairs and each meridian has multiple acupuncture points along the pathway. In this short practice, we will play with using the breath to move energy, or Qi, along these pathways, one channel at a time. If your mind loses focus, congratulate yourself for your awareness, and bring it back to the object of focus. I hope you enjoy it.
Inner Guide Meditation
We all have an inner guide, or teacher, that we have the capability of tapping into at any given moment. In this advanced meditation, I will walk you through the steps to access that guide. We will work on purifying an obstacle with them. So if you haven't already, I highly suggest you listen to my Purification Meditation before trying this one. I hope you enjoy it.
In this purification meditation to purify our negative mental afflictions, I will guide us through the following steps: (1) Identify what you would like to purify, (2) Look for ways in which you contribute to this, (3) Cultivate a sense of intelligent regret around this affliction and how you contribute to it, (4) Set a time frame around how long you will refrain from this thing in the future (5) Set how you will intentionally respond in the future within the given timeframe, and (6) Rejoice in committing yourself to this practice. I hope you enjoy it.
