We can find it hard to not engage in certain behaviours when we have strong urges. This meditation helps you to surf strong urges, so that you can choose how you want to respond, rather than react.

Take a time out
Instead of ignoring the pain that I feel I need to experience it and give my body time to understand everything I can about that feeling and how just stopping and taking a pause can really use my tension in my my muscles relax a lot more than I always remember them relaxing last time I did this.

Ride the Wave
In dealing with urges, I do not have to give in to them. I must realize that the thoughts behind them are indeed just thoughts. Thoughts cannot harm me, unless I allow them to. Behaviors, however, can be harmful if I permit these thoughts to permeate the mind. By just sitting with an urge, I can reach the peak of the wave, and ride it out until I feel better.

Good Morning 11-6-17
I chose this mediation because I was hoping to get out of pain a little. Not the pain like emotional or trauma, but I went to the dentist on Friday 11-3-17 and he did more work than anticipated and I woke up this morning with blurred vision and my jaw swollen. I am sore and man, I am cranky. My fur babies were like mom, go back to bed. I put my boo boo lip out and started to cry. I know this too shall pass, but damn this hurts. Thank goodness for Aleve and coffee..alright all you Aura fans, have a Great Day! I am going to start mine over.

Surfing the urge
I can experience an urge or strong feeling without having to act on it or indulgent. I can breathe into the places in my body where I feel the physical sensations of the urge, and the other parts of me will begin to fill up with air. I can decide what to do with an urge, and I can allow myself simply to observe what it feels like to have this urge, and take a moment to feel myself, separately from acting on the strong feelings. I can ride these overwhelming feelings like a wave, past their peak and plateau. As long as I am watching, I am not in danger of either missing the feeling, which is okay and important to have these urgent thoughts come up, but I can also frame that urge to act on it better

This is very good for recognizing your urges but in terms of a meditation I don’t really like it much.

Interesting ride
I actually learned about this method of visualization for mindfulness meditation in one of my classes this semester and its application to overcoming addiction. It's shown to be an effective coping mechanism for alcoholics. Lo and behold, here I am using it to cope with feelings of anger, anxiety, and fear of failure.

Busy mind
This reminds me that what I’m struggling with is normal. That by adjusting me thoughts I can redirect my mind and responses. Settle down yet no fight for control. What a nice discovery.

Surging urges
Learned that my thoughts depending on the situation causes my surging urges and I want to get angry and forget reality to withdraw. I realize that it’s only a thought coming to your mind and you shouldn’t act out when this urge occurs.

Completely drained by the surges of my emotions ebbing in and out. They leave me exhausted. There like tidal waves crashing. They throw everything around recklessly. Then when the storm stops raging and it becomes still again I'm left emptied

Urges
Urges are just an act you want to do at the time but just remember the consequences and what you believe in. Breathing helps to get rid of some of those urges.

Conquer
I overcame an urge to hurt myself today. For a long time this has been a struggle for me, and loving myself is never easy. But through accepting the solace of meditation and allowing ourselves to be perfectly vulnerable and human, we can conquer these urges and eventually overcome intense adversity. 💕

Urges
I know that if I wait about 5 mins, a craving will usually pass. Are cravings and urges the similar? Probably. They both are a reaction to something. By adding the visual of the urge/craving as a wave and feeling the physical sensation and breathing through it are additional tools to use to release them.

Stressed
This morning started out with me possibly breaking my toe by stubbing it on some metal chairs we have leaning against the wall in the dining room. The same metal chairs I asked my husband to move about a week ago. My four year old twins are full of energy constantly saying “Mom watch this Mom I’m hungry Mom I want a snack” (after eating breakfast) they are screaming at the dog for jumping on them trying to play....on and on and on. My 6 month old is screaming while I try to spoon feed him making a mess I finally cave and breastfeed him but he pinching and pulling my breast and still not acting satisfied. My mind feels like it’s going to explode. And then I got my reminder for my daily meditation. I made the girls go to their room for a minute. Stuck a binky in babies mouth and patted his bottom while I put my headphones in and blocked everything out for 3 minutes. This was exactly what I needed. I’m not saying I feel 100% but I feel a lot more calm and ready to try again this mor

Wave
I learned strong feelings peak like a wave, plateau and then dissipate. The lesson is that they pass, breathing helps the wave to dissipate.

Urges & dreadful feelings
At this moment I have no urges and I’m OK with where I am. But, I will save this meditation session because it would be excellent for when I get sugar cravings and for when I really don’t want to go to work. I sometimes feel overwhelmed with dreadful feeling that I don’t need to be lugging around with me at work. This will be my go to meditation for those awful times. Thanks 🙏 Aura

I used it to bring relaxation to my sore muscles by breathing into them. I studied the pain and used my breath to bring attention to the sore area. It did not rid me of the pain but, it is a method for me to cope.

Overwhelmed
When I feel overwhelmed I tend to get wrapped up things and feel, if I made a mistake, it’s this huge world stopping thing and I start to feel acidic, stressed, and unable to think past the feelings. This meditation helped me tap into the feelings and thoughts instead of pushing them away and getting swept up in the process. It felt great to embrace this and finally feel like I am not looney. That I am instead, facing things that feel terrifying at first because they feel so massive at the start and substantially smaller as you engage with them and allow awareness to expand.

Redo
Intent was to meditate, but mind wandered and starting doing things around my bedroom, then walked out and never came back. Ugh! Cant slow myself down. This is part of anxiety that keeps me moving, keeps me buzzing around like a bee. Even when I'm talking on the phone, I can't keep still....I pace and do stuff I don't intend to.

This too shall pass
Thank you for the reminder that urges, compulsions, and all the negative emotions, fear, and shame that come up with them- are only temporary. They eventually will reach their own peak and pass on their own. It was helpful to have a reminder that I am not my thoughts and I can watch my compulsive thoughts just like I watch something outside my body. Just because the voice is strong sometimes, does not mean I have to head action with its demands. Thank you for this reminder 🙏🏻

Tolerate the urge
They are just thoughts. They do not own you. You are not your thoughts. You do not need to act on your thoughts. Breathe through your mind and allow the urge to subside. You are stronger than the urge.

What I liked about this practice is that we don’t have to judge. She mentioned just experience what you are feeling without judgement. This was helpful for me as I debated whether or not to eat a sweet treat when I am trying to do better. This helped me not judge myself or beat myself up for wanting something sweet. Also, she says you can do this meditation again if you need to-as this is true-I fight the urge-but it returns-or doesn’t go away easily.
