In this talk, we expand upon the CBT model to include the somatic understanding of how our state of being influences our thoughts. Then explore how to practice shifting state, as a more direct way to shift thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

Overwhelming Truth
I loved how such a complex chain of psychology was articulated so brilliantly in very simple and clear terms. I probably had some form of inkling (aren’t we human after all?) of something of the sort. But to have the idea of “Story follows State” laid out so clearly has really made me happy at the end of my day. I need more coaching and help with my state. I have not been myself in a long while now, and I feel i’m starting to miss out on life and opportunities because of it. Over the last few days I have started my first meditations and practice, and I’ve listened to this and other short lectures on CBT, and feel that the collective will help me get through this period. But not just - I want to keep going and make this part of my lifestyle.

Fits with my experience
This has been my experience last year. I reached to CBT as I had depression and anxiety, and it helped me a lot, but that was not the end of the story. I found out that if I was not feeling physically well, I could not avoid negative thoughts, despite being aware of them. Now that I am feeling better, positive thoughts are there most of the time, without great effort

Kitchen Dance Party …
Has been a tough few years, and I see where my “state” definitely affects my response to all avenues of my life. Loved the suggestions toward changing current state, especially the “kitchen dance party.” So many teaching moments on Aura. What a blessing.

I need to improve sleep to improve my emotional state
Shift emotional state to have more positive thoughts. Accept thoughts not rational if sleep deprived

Building a repitoir
So many choices and opportunities to play with my state of mind or mood and catch myself before I tunnel into unpleasantness or at least to make a conscious choice to be angry offended maybe I can shorten the time I’m in “fight” mode. Focusing on the other helps dissipate may state of anxiety, put off-ness or what ever my usual illusion about how the world should be

Story follows state
By focusing on myself and preparing for the day by starting with self care I can change my response to issues, I will try this and see how my responses change as I change myself

My state of being
It's not what happens to us. It's what thoughts we have about what happens to us. Very powerful. Being aware of my state when I am confronted with something. Maybe a body scan. Or an inventory of the last 24 hours. Such as sleep deprivation as you mentioned. That one is so important! Our state affects our story. Very good! I am extremely interested in fully exploring CBT and other methods like it. I'm finding that my thoughts hold a significant place in my life. It begins with me. My state is about being aware, mindful, my self-care, being present.

The wrong I’ve done is who I am
Distant memories of the past will never be the present. It’s okay to let them stay there and move on yourself. It’ll all be okay Steve

State
I learned that my state of being directly impacts my thoughts. Being sleep deprived affects my thoughts and reactions.
