Resolving Conflict
The key to resolving a conflict in any relationship is to find out what the root cause of the conflict is. A few tips to help communicate in any relationship are: 1. Cool Off- If you are in a heated discussion take some time to cool off before responding to the other person. This will help you to see the other person’s point of view. It will also help you to come up with a better solution to help resolve the conflict. It is okay to tell the other person that you need some space to process what was just said. 2. Self Awareness- When we are not feeling our best or having a bad day, normal things that would usually not annoys us could be causing us to be irritable. The same goes for the other person. It is important to let the other person know why you might be in a bad mood. This will help for them to not take it personally. It is also okay to say...I understand this is important to you but today I’m not feeling my best to be able to give you my full attention. 3. Communication- Use statements such as “I feel” or “ when this happened...it made me feel “. This will help the other person not to take things so personally. It works well with dealing with a passive aggressive person. Relationships are like plants. The need constant tending to in order to thrive. It is perfectly normal in any relationship to experience conflict. However, when conflicts cannot be resolved is when relationships start to deteriorate. It is important to learn how to communicate with one another. Most of the time one person has to step up to take the lead of being the bigger person.
