One of the most helpful ways to settle into a meditation, especially when you are just starting to create your meditation practice, is to use a word or phrase as an anchor. Carry the word or phrase on your breath. As your mind settles, you may find that you automatically let go of the repetition of the word or phrase, but when you notice the mind getting busy again, you can always rely on the word or phrase to help you re-focus as part of the meditation.
