Helps with tension!
I liked this posture exercise more than I had expected :-) The few minutes I took to be mindful of my posture actually left me feeling as if I had just gotten a quick massage! As someone who spends a lot of time at a desk, my spine and neck often carry a lot of tension after hours of reading/note-taking/typing. This helped me release a little of that tension and do some self-care for my body 🙂

I really felt myself tune into my body and how I sit. It made me feel aware of all the different little things, even if it's just the little things that contribute to how I sit. I think it's important to focus on this, since it can be such a big thing, but we barley notice it.

I often find myself correcting my posture at work - I will realize that I am slumped over my desk, working on my laptop, and take a moment to straighten my back, pull back my shoulders, and roll my head to loosen my neck. I’d like to take a minute to do a breathing exercise when I do this again in the future. Just take a moment to check in with myself, and center myself physically and mentally periodically throughout the work day.

With this exercise I decided to engage in an activity while I was doing it. I'm doing this with about I'd say, 30 to 50% of my exercises. Why is that? Well, isn't that what we want out of all of this? To be at peace while we do things? The problem I've had before is that I feel peaceful by meditating, and sitting still,, and then as soon as I start doing something I get edgy or stressed. So I'm starting to do some of these exercises while I'm doing another activity, but they don't always fit together so I have to adjust them on the fly sometimes.

There are parts of the body that I don't realize are tense until I try to become aware of them. Even the smallest parts such as the jaws, shoulders, neck, and forearms can be tensed even when "relaxed." Being able to notice these slight tensions allows my body into a state of total comfort and tranquility that makes me feel like I'm almost outside my own body.

The curves and angles of our bodies are shaped by our attention to detail. The curves and angles of our thoughts are the same. We are shaped by life experience, physically, mentally and spiritually. As long as their is growth there is hope. Stagnation of thought is an absence of growth. There is no shame in changing your opinions, trying out new experiences. We will never learn it all but at least we will try.

Thinking about posture more deeply was definitely an interesting experience. Parts of my body felt like they were almost floating or moving slightly without my awareness or control, and i'm wondering if this is why I find it so peaceful to lay down and become completely still. It's out of the normal in so many ways.

Life is a balance between what we can control and what we cannot. Our society has a go, go, go mentality. We need to realize that we don’t need to be stuck there. Sometimes it’s perfectly ok to shut down, kick back and do nothing. It’s called balance, and you’re worth it! 💕

Prepare for the dance of life
Dancing is one of my favorite ways to manage stress, and this reminded me of preparing to dance - posture is key. It was easier to get calm and grounded with this, compared to trying to focus on breathing, as I’ve suffered hyperventilation and other breathing-related anxiety symptoms before.
