Metaphors give us perspective; they're central to how we understand the world. They help us to reason and understand what's around us. They’re also illuminating, helping us to see things in a more helpful way. They provide new insight and can change the way we relate to certain things. The Fly Fishing metaphor helps us get some perspective on this tendency we have to get hooked, then unhooked by our thoughts. It also exemplifies to us the problems that arise when we struggle with our thoughts and feelings.
